I’m following the design of PT elements using the book “Design of Prestressed concrete to EC2“ 2nd ed by Gilbert et. al. As I go I am trying to relate it back to what Sofistik does in its design check of elements be it beams, shells or design elements (AQB or BEMESS).
I’ve stumbled across this line in section 6.4.3 (Design of doubly reinforced cross section) which deals with the below figure:
“If the depth to the neutral axis in Figure 6.13b is greater than about 0.3d,
then the section may be considered to be non-ductile and the value of x
must be reduced. An appropriate value of x may be selected (say x = 0.3d).“
My question is: is there a way to check the depth of the neutral axis in Sofistik? Does Sofistik check the “0.3d” limit (or some other value - I’ve seen 0.45d being used as well) and adjust its design accordingly? Or is some other means followed in Sofistik’s design.
Any help/comments are greatly appreciated.
