Track structure interaction as per UIC 774-3R

Hi everyone,

Does anyone have references or examples in Sofistik to evaluate the effect of track structure interaction according to UIC 774-3R, particularly for continuous bridges with a single fixed pier?

I am working on a Sofistik model to analyze the restraint effects of an unballasted track on the deformation of the bridge deck. Any guidance or shared experience would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

Hi there, I've recently done this analysis. Out of curiosity, are you doing train-track bridge interaction (TTBI), or rail-structure interaction (RSI)? If TTBI, you can define a MDOF train model in CADiNP like this example https://docs.sofistik.com/2023/en/tutorials/dynamics/rolling-stock/rolling-stock.html. There is a limitation that you need to run it along a track centreline. Do you have rail clips connected to the superstructure? Don't forget to use the nonlinear work law property of SPTS. If doing an RSI in ASE, activate nonlinear analysis option. Best, Benjamin Klassen (ARUP)

I also have the same question

Hi, further to what Benjamin said, there is the sofistikforyou course. Train-Track-Bridge Interaction (TTBI) - SOFiSTiK FOR YOU. It also discusses briefly RSI.

I typically use a load stepper How to do “Load Stepping” using CADiNP - SOFiSTiK FOR YOU

This was you can put many load positions, you can further then separate out vertical load, braking effects, etc for checking.

I then run big ASE loops for every position because you can run NONL loops with a PLC of the temperature.
