Swelling of soil

Hi,

I have in modelled a segmented tunnel consisting of beam elements supported by a bedding material (modelled by SLN and SLNS in SOFIMSHC). The analysis is carried out in ASE where loads are soil stiffness are updated for relevant construction stages. Over time the soil will start swelling. How can I introduce this in the analysis?

I would like not to change the forces in bedding springs when the swelling is introduced, as the stress below the tunnel remain unchanged. Is it e.g. possible to introduce a strain load on the bedding springs that extend the springs without changing the spring force?

I’m not sure about your problem…
When the soil is swelling I would expect that the bedding stresses between tunnel segements and soil is increasing. And therefore I would work with support displacements.
Perhaps this is a possibility?
