I would like to define a “no-tension” interface between two elements, meaning they cannot transmit any tensile force. In my case, I have a slab supported by a column to reduce deflection, but there is no mechanical connection between them, so no tension should be transferred.
An alternative way of modelling is to use a link between two structural points and activate a nonlinearity together with defining a axial failure load. Here the direction of the defined link would be important. So in your case I would say the link should be defined from the slab to the column.
