Hello, i need example or right verification to model and design castellated beam in sofistik. thanks in advance
I am sorry but we do not have any straight forward example in that matter.
This depends on what you want to design. As you know FE beam elements are line elements. Therefore it is not possible to model any openings inside the beam elements.
Another approach is, to model the castellated beam with area elements. This enables you to model the holes, but this is much more work to do.
Finally it is your decision, how to model this type of beam.
i have already made many trials and modeled an example for castellated beam using sofiplus and checked the results i guess it is ok . i used the same concept of modeling haunch and cut my beam to segments to model the semi trapezoidal opening . it was quick using sofiplus and cross section editor
Would that be possible for you to share the ssd model ?
Model at uploaded screeshot is not calculationg shear behaviour of beam in the area of openings properly. Those should be modelled as two seperated beams.
Can you provide the model ?
can you please share an example model?
Hello Ahmed,
Perhaps you can simply model your honeycomb girder as a Vierendeel system, using the cross-section of the top and bottom chords, including the web above the openings, as the top or bottom chords of the Vierendeel system, and the vertical members of the system with the cross-section of the web between the openings. I would compare the deformations of this system under unit load cases with a model made of shell elements and, if necessary, adjust the stiffness of the frame system.
Best regards,
Felix
